OpenJUMP uses SLD (Styled layer descriptor) to export and import a layer style. Styled Layer Descriptor (SLD) is an XML schema defined by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) for describing the appearance of map layers (vector and raster) and it is widely used by Web Map Services (WMS). SLD is adopted by many other desktop GIS software like uDig, Kosmo, gvSIG and QGis and can be used as an exchange format for layer styles

OpenJUMP Export Styles

To export a style choose on Menu bar>Layer menu Save style as SLD file. In the file dialog write down the name of the style layer adding also the .SLD suffix, eg. my layer.sld

OpenJUMP Import Styles

OpenJUMP can import into a layer a style in SLD format. From Menu bar>Layer choose Import SLD style file function. A wizard window opens where user can choose the type of import SLD (text or fill type) OpenJUMP can import SLD saved by other software like uDig and Kosmo.

The following table shows the SLD compatibility between OpenJUMP and other software

software Fill by range Fill by attribute Fill pattern Line color Line pattern Line width Text font Text color Text Dimension Halo Text position
OpenJUMP yes yes no yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
Kosmo partially yes no yes no yes yes yes yes yes yes
uDig 1 partially 1 no no no yes yes yes 1 yes
ArcMap 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2
